As was reported at the time, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt recently signed to reprise her role as Julie James in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.
Although this was unveiled with a glossy announcement and pitched as a joyous event, sources close to production were telling us all was not well.
As we reported then, studio executives, the film’s cast, and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson were quite upset with Hewitt.
This was the result of the actress stalling contract negotiations, and not signing onto the project until filming was well underway.
Now we can confirm via a reliable source that all of this is indeed true. Cast and crew have worked around Hewitt for the past eight weeks, hoping the actress would relent. However, as we speculated at the time, Hewitt was unhappy with the role she was offered, requesting script changes and a beefier part before she closed the deal.
Consequently, this has led to production being put on hiatus. Although Hewitt is now aboard the project, we can confirm that filming has been suspended until later this month. We’re told production was left with no other option, as Hewitt hasn’t yet arrived in Australia, and is required for the rest of the shoot.
Tensions are said to be high, but with Hewitt still aboard the project, it looks like things will press ahead. According to our source, hopes are still high that I Know What You Did Last Summer will meet its July 18th release date, despite the delays.
Will all be forgiven should Jennifer Love Hewitt turn in an amazing performance as Julie James? We’ll just have to wait and see.
