Mitchell Lichtenstein’s horror drama Angelica should be with us soon, with worldwide sales rights picked up by Spotlight Pictures. It is the third feature from the Teeth director, and comes with some pretty serious credentials. The Hunger Games’ Jena Malone leads a cast that includes Academy Award nominee Janet McTeer (Albert Nobbs, The Woman in Black) and The Pianist’s Ed Stoppard, as well as Tovah Feldshuh (The Walking Dead’s Deanna). Angelica also features the work of Acadamy Award nominees, cinematographer Dick Pope (The Illusionist, Legend) and costume designer Rita Ryack (Casino, Apollo 13), and production designer Luciana Arrighi, who won an Oscar for her work on Howards End.
Lichtenstein reunites with his Teeth producer Joyce Pierpoline for the film, which is based on Arthur Phillips’ novel. The gothic tale tells of a newly married couple living in Victorian London who endure a series of increasingly shocking and sinister psychological and supernatural effects following the birth of their child.
Angelica premiered at last year’s Berlin Film Festival, and heads to the European Film Market on 14th February. The big-name spookfest should see a pretty wide release later this year.
