A new teaser trailer for J.A. Bayona’s (The Orphanage, Penny Dreadful) A Monster Calls has been unleashed and it’s one hell of a heart-breaking nightmare. The storyline itself is enough to make you tear up as it follows a young boy who befriends a tree monster to help deal with his mother’s terminal illness.
The story is as sad as it sounds as it deals with grief, love and the feelings of being trapped, helpless and heart-broken. However, there’s a bloody great big monster tree (voiced by Liam Neeson) who adds a much-needed dose of light scares and humour to prevent those watching from topping themselves. It’s great.
Check out the trailer below which blends fantasy and reality beautifully in a way that would make Guillermo del Toro proud. It looks touching, imaginative and filled with heart; perfectly capturing the essence of the novel written by Patrick Ness.
A Monster Calls will be released on 14th October in the USA and 21st October in the UK.
