A24 continue to kill it at the domestic box-office, with their latest critical darling Talk to Me setting the studio a brand-new record!
Previously, A24’s most successful flick at the US & Canada box-office was Ari Aster’s critically lauded Hereditary, with $44.1 million domestically. However, Talk to Me has just managed to edge that total out with its current tally of $44.6 million.
Of course, Hereditary still retains the crown when factoring in the global box-office, pulling $86 million worldwide. Talk to Me hasn’t fared quite as well in other territories, but it’s currently sitting at a still very impressive $63 million altogether.
Talk to Me has undoubtedly become the surprise horror hit of the year, winning over audiences and becoming a darling with critics, quite the feat for a horror film. The movie follows a group of friends as they discover they can communicate with spirits through a mysterious embalmed hand. Of course, their dalliances with the supernatural have dire consequences.
The Australian flick has done such wonders for A24 that a sequel was recently ordered and is currently in early development. The team behind the film also recently revealed that they filmed a prequel back-to-back with their original concept, so it’s quite possible we have two more Talk to Me instalments coming our way!
