Syfy have acquired the rights to a Van Helsing series which will focus on Helsing’s daughter Vanessa Helsing and will be a new take on the Dracula myth. With a lucky amount of 13 episodes, the show will be produced by Nomadic Pictures who is behind the supernatural film The Dorm and the series adaptation of Fargo.
When speaking about the series Chad Oakes (Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures) said, “The series is unique in exploring a world completely dominated by vampires, while the human characters have to learn the importance of working together to ensure their survival.”
The decision to have heroine Vanessa at the centre of the series is a bold and refreshing idea, with the story picking up five years in to the future where vampires dominate the world. Vanessa becomes humanity’s last hope and it is up to her to restore what has been lost. There have been a lot of shows and films focusing on the point-of-view of vampires, so it will be interesting to see the focus shift back to the vampire hunter.
The series is set to begin filming in January 2016.
