While we were all busy obsessing over Star Wars, Awards season and the mild winter we’ve been having, Paramount made a sneaky sequel to 2008’s found-footage hit Cloverfield called 10 Cloverfield Lane and it’s going to be with us in 2 months. This is all happening so fast.
JJ Abrams has produced the film – the devious son-of-a – with Dan Trachtenberg directing a script written by Drew Goddard, Damien Chazelle, Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken. The film stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr. With so many people involved, it’s hilarious that none of this got out until now. We aren’t complaining though, because the trailer actually looks bloody great.
Taking a completely different approach to the original film, 10 Cloverfield Lane is set in an underground bunker where a group of people are residing – assumedly from the monsters that caused mayhem in the first film. There’s no found-footage, so say goodbye to the shaky cam and it’s not entirely focusing on a group of young people this time. The trailer’s pace it pitch-perfect and set to the, now, chilling melody of “I Think We’re Alone Now”. It slowly descends in to disturbing territory and concludes at just the right moment. Colour us intrigued!
Now is the time to watch the trailer and gather all the clues you can; look out for numbers, words and anything that could be a hint of what’s to come. Hopefully we’re going to be hit with a bit of viral marketing so we can immerse ourselves in the Cloverfield mystery once again.
10 Cloverfield Lane is released in the USA on 11th March.
