It’s the film you’ve all been waiting for. From hand-held cameras to films shot on a mobile phone and now, a film that has been shot entirely on Snapchat. Is this the beginning of the end of the world? It may be.
Indigenous Media have brought the 68-minute feature film Sickhouse to VOD after it “aired” live on Snapchat between 29th April and 3rd May. The full-length feature will have additional footage, so even if you caught the live event, there’s plenty more to see. Sickhouse follows a group of teenagers as they explore the infamous ‘Sickhouse’ legend. Obviously, they get a bit more than they bargained for and in a Blair Witch-y deal, strange occurrences freak them the hell out. Time to go home, I think.
I will leave a quote from the co-founder of Indigenous Media here and without comment, “Younger audiences are not going to the theatres; they’re not watching TV. They spend their time online watching YouTube, Snapchat, etc. Since this is where these audiences live, why should we try to force them to go elsewhere to watch a movie or show?”
