It’s been quite a while since we’ve had any kind of update on the follow-up to 2022’s monster hit Smile. The last news we reported was back in the spring, when word reached us that Smile writer-director Parker Finn had signed a first-look deal with Paramount Pictures.
Well, evidently the deal has been sealed for some time now, and Finn is moving ahead with a Smile sequel, as Smile 2 has been given a release date of October 18th 2024.
The sequel will be the first new project from Finn’s lucrative deal, with the director holding the ultimate bargaining chip, as his 2022 original scared up a stunning $217 million at the box-office.
So far, we have no details on when the film will begin shooting and no plot details have emerged, but it’s purported the script is complete and a shoot in the first quarter of 2024 is “likely.”
Of signing Finn to a first-look deal, Paramount CEO Brian Robbins had the following to say:
“Smile’s breakthrough success is a testament to Parker’s unique and fresh filmmaking, and we are thrilled that he will make Paramount his home.”
So, Parker Finn looks set to become one of horror’s hottest names, and seems to have a very “dark” future ahead of him.
Are you ready to “smile” again?
