1984’s Silent Night, Deadly Night is perhaps the ultimate Santa slasher movie.
The movie tells the tale of Billy Chapman, a young boy traumatised and morally confused after his parents’ brutal murder by a man dressed as Santa Claus.
Following years of abuse in a strict religious orphanage, Billy’s twisted morals and fear of Christmas combine in one terrifying night. Donning a Santa suit, Billy snaps, taking to the streets and killing anyone he deems “naughty.”
A controversial movie upon release, Silent Night, Deadly Night has since become a cult classic and spawned a very interesting franchise.
Now, word reaches us that Silent Night, Deadly Night will be receiving a direct sequel in novel form!
Silent Night, Deadlier Night comes to us from prolific genre writer Armando Muñoz. Previously, Muñoz has authored novelisations of the original Silent Night, Deadly Night, 1981’s slasher classic My Bloody Valentine, and the ultimate Christmas slasher, 1974’s Black Christmas.
An official synopsis for Silent Night, Deadlier Night reads:
“On Christmas morning, Billy Chapman – the Santa Claus Killer – was killed before he could claim his final victim: Mother Superior, the cruel architect of the orphanage where Billy endured years of abuse. His younger brother Ricky survived the massacre, but not unscarred.
20 years later, Ricky lives quietly in the nearby town of Bartlesville, hiding from his past. But on the anniversary of the killings, the past claws its way back. A blizzard descends on the region, cutting off power, roads, and escape. Sister Margaret, freshly released from a mental institution, reappears with a disturbing fixation on Ricky.
And as Christmas Eve falls, a new Santa stalks the frozen streets… armed with a red sack and a gleaming fire axe identical to Billy’s. He knows Ricky’s name. He knows his sins. And he has a naughty list to settle.”
The novel will release on November 10th via Titan Books, and is currently available for pre-order.
Of course, the original movie did spawn its own series of sequels and remakes, most notably 1987’s infamously bad Silent Night, Deadly Night Part 2. However, we’re likely safe in assuming Silent Night, Deadlier Night will be a far superior sequel!
