Exploring the fine art world for his fourth feature film, Shane Dax Taylor’s (The Grey, Bloodworth, Isolation) tense and sinuous shocker, Masquerade provides a refreshingly unique take on the crowded home invasion sub-genre.
Written, Produced and Directed by Dax Taylor, and starring Bella Thorne (Assassination Nation, The Babysitter franchise), Alyvia Alyn Lind (“Chucky”, “Daybreak”), Austin Nichols (“Bates Motel”, “The Walking Dead”) and Mircea Monroe (Book Club, Fifty Shades of Black), the film follows eleven-year-old Casey (Lind) as she finds herself home alone and flung into a deadly game of cat and mouse when a band of thieves, headed up by Rose (Thorne) break into her house with the intention of stealing a priceless collection of artwork. With the thieves’ ruthlessness growing increasingly unpredictable, the stakes continually escalate to a shocking climax.
With Masquerade releasing this July 30, 2021 in theatres and on VOD, SCREAM sat down with Dax Taylor who revealed how the film’s final twist was the initial genesis for the film and how it was the perfect opportunity make his first movie back at home in Louisville, Kentucky …. filming at his own parents’ house and on their 5+ acre property in the process…
