The Shallows Director in Talks to Helm Suicide Squad Sequel

Posted on: July 15th, 2017

It may have been critically slaughtered, with many regular audiences hating it too, but Suicide Squad grossed an impressive $746 million. On a budget of $175 million that was pretty great, so it’s not surprising to learn that a sequel is in the pipeline.

It’s all in early stages at the moment, with production planning to begin in 2018, but there has been a lot of talk surrounding who will step in to David Ayer’s shoes and direct the film that follows DC bad guys (and gals). Early rumours suggested that Mel Gibson was interested in directing, but now all eyes are on Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan, The Shallows). He’s currently in talks, so there’s no confirmation yet, but it would be great to see him at the helm.

As Collet-Serra has directed both horror and action films – including plenty with Liam Neeson – his experience should be a good fit for creating a film that could blend both genres.

Suicide Squad 2 could hit cinemas in 2019.
