If you’re unsure of how Mary Shelley came up with the idea of her classic novel Frankenstein, then this new trailer for Mary Shelley will give you a bit of an insight.
Mary Shelley will trace the events that lead to the author writing Frankenstein, combining how she learned that humans could be monstrous and the idea of corpse reanimation. The trailer is a bit of an odd one. The film doesn’t seem to be stepping too far away from the idea of a clichéd romantic period drama and, instead, feels derivative.
Hopefully the story of Mary Shelley will be enough to craft an entertaining feature and if the critic quotes are to be believed, it’s a raw and timely feminist piece of film-making.
I suppose we’ll save our judgement.
Mary Shelley stars Elle Fanning in the title role, as well as Douglas Booth as Percy Bysshe Shelley, Bel Powley as Claire Clairmont, Ben Hardy as John William Polidori, and Tom Sturridge as Lord Byron.
Mary Shelley will be released on 28th May 2018.
