Audiences are still screaming for Ghostface and now he’s reaping the rewards and no doubt revelling in the success of Scream VI, as the film takes home two MTV Movie Awards.

The MTV Movie Awards took place last week in Los Angeles and saw Scream VI scare off some stiff competition to take home the coveted Best Movie popcorn bucket. Alongside the 2023 slasher flick were the $2 billion grossers Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: Way of the Water. Furthermore, Scream VI faced tough competition for the gong within its own genre with box-office titans Smile and Nope also nominated. However, Ghostface slashed them all to pieces in what is no doubt quite the coup for Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media.

However, not only did Scream VI take home the night’s highest honour, but it also netted Courteney Cox her first MTV nomination and win for playing the character Gale Weathers. Cox took home the gong for Best Fight for her apartment brawl with Ghostface, beating Jamie Campbell Bower and Millie Bobby Brown for their climactic Stranger Things showdown. Cox’s win has been met with universal acclaim from fans, who have waited six films to see her iconic character finally do battle with the masked tormentor. The actress responded via Instagram with a video thanking fans for their support, only for the pesky killer to punch her in the face mid-speech.

Scream alum Jenna Ortega also received multiple nominations for her turn as Wednesday Addams in the Netflix show Wednesday, ultimately winning for Best Actress in a TV Show. However, it is our sad duty to report that Scream’s Ghostface failed to even garner a nomination for Best Villain… what a travesty! Perhaps next movie, huh?

Congratulations to the Scream VI team and Courteney Cox!
