As was reported back in January, Sony are prepping a sequel to Joel Ruben’s 2025 slasher movie Heart Eyes.
Ruben has recently confirmed that the script is complete, and pre-production on the movie is well underway.
Now, we have our first official casting announcement for the sequel!
We can confirm that original Heart Eyes star Mason Gooding is in negotiations to reprise his role as Jay Simmonds.
Gooding was universally singled out for praise for his performance in the original film, so fans will undoubtedly be pleased to hear of his return.
Currently we have no word on if Gooding’s co-star Olivia Holt will return alongside him.
Joel Ruben’s Heart Eyes was one of 2025’s most critically praised horror offerings. The slasher horror-comedy took the tropes of a typical mushy Valentines comedy and mixed in some equally beloved horror tropes.
Earning $33 million worldwide on an $18 million budget, Heart Eyes was a modest success. Evidently Sony Pictures and Spyglass Media Group have been listening to fans’ pleas with this sequel, as audiences have been vocal about wanting more.
