She’s best known for her iconic turn as Laurie Strode in the Halloween franchise.
However, actress Jamie Lee Curtis is about to take on an equally iconic role in a risky reboot.
In rather unexpected news, reliable sources are reporting that Curtis is circling a feature film adaption of the long-running television serial Murder, She Wrote.
Running for an impressive 12 seasons between 1984 and 1996, Murder, She Wrote told the tale of famous mystery novelist and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher. Played by Angela Lansbury, the weekly show would see Jessica in different locations where murder always seemed to follow. Of course, it would fall to the iconic character to find the culprit and unmask their motive.
Word reaches us that Curtis is being eyed for the lead role of Fletcher, in a feature adaption of the series for Universal.
Having been in development since 2023, the as-yet-untitled reboot has been penned by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo. Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal will produce the adaption, with Curtis expected to executive produce alongside starring.
Although Curtis has yet to comment on the project, her involvement likely comes from a lucrative deal the star has with Universal Pictures and Blumhouse productions. Beginning with her turns in the most recent Halloween features, Curtis has brokered a deal with both parties that enables her to pick and choose her projects, whilst earning an impressive payday.
Undoubtedly a risky project for all involved, we can’t help but wonder if there’s the potential for Curtis’ Jessica Fletcher to become as beloved as Lansbury’s? Although we hold out hope, it’s a very daunting role for any actress to take on.
We’ll let you know, should Jamie Lee Curtis officially sign to this surprising choice.
