You may have noticed in our coverage of Neve Campbell’s triumphant return to Scream 7, her statement was cut unexpectedly short.

That’s because we felt this announcement deserved an article of its very own. Ladies and Gentlemen, Scream creator Kevin Williamson will be directing the seventh instalment!

In her return announcement, Campbell continued:
“While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson”

Shortly afterward, Williamson re-posted Campbell’s script image and issued his own statement on social media:
“It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Thank you to all the Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps giving. @nevecampbell See you on set.”

This will be Williamson’s second time directing a feature film, having previously helmed 2000’s Teaching Mrs. Tingle. Since that time, he has directed countless hours of television whilst ruling the networks with his shows The Vampire Diaries, The Following, and Stalker. So, it’s safe to say, the seventh entry has found a place of security following months of disruption.

Following Scream 2022 and Scream VI filmmakers Radio Silence being unable to return for a seventh entry, Christopher Landon stepped into the role of director. However, after a number of turbulent weeks which saw Scream 7 lose its two leads, Landon quit the project to focus on werewolf tale Big Bad.

Since then, the script has been retooled in a “creative reboot,” and with Campbell now aboard, everything seems to finally be moving smoothly. We can think of no better person to bring this new chapter to the screen than the series creator himself.

Congratulations Kevin! Now bring on the screams!
