Scream 7 is still quite a way away, but it appears those behind the scenes have a great deal of faith in the project.
Multiple reliable sources are reporting that Spyglass Media Group and Paramount Pictures have greenlit an eighth Scream entry.
This is bolstered by a listing on Production Weekly, which lists Scream 8 as “in development.” Historically, Production Weekly has been a reliable tip source, as information listed usually comes directly from the studio themselves.
Whilst the information is scarce, what has been listed seems to confirm that the same team of producers responsible for the fifth, sixth, and upcoming seventh instalment will return.
Most intriguing, Kevin Williamson is listed as the director of Scream 8. As is well known, Williamson is serving as director on the seventh entry, in a full circle moment for the franchise creator.
Speculation is already rampant that Williamson’s rumoured return hints at a cliffhanger ending ahead for Scream 7. A two-part Scream story is something Williamson has been open about wishing to make a reality… Could it be that it’s all about to come to pass?
Although the eighth instalment is still very early in development, we’re already hearing that franchise star Neve Campbell will be involved.
It is currently unknown if any other Scream 7 cast members are attached. However, the likelihood is high, given the prominence of multi-picture deals in Hollywood.
So, it seems the powers that be are confident they have a hit on their hands with Scream 7, and the blood will keep flowing. Have they jumped the gun?
We’ll find out when Scream 7 releases on February 27th 2026.
