“SCREAM 7:” MORE DETAILS EMERGE

Posted on: December 6th, 2023

It’s a very confusing time to be a Scream fan right now. Whilst fans were eagerly anticipating a seventh entry to close out the highly-successful “Carpenter Sisters trilogy,” these hopes were dashed with exit of both leads Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.

On November 22nd, Barrera was fired from the project. The following day it was announced that Ortega had withdrawn from the film citing “scheduling conflicts.” Barrera was dropped due to controversial social media remarks regarding the current Israel-Palestine conflict, with many suspecting Ortega had dropped out in support.

However, now we can clarify that Ortega exited the project months ago, allegedly due to her dissatisfaction with the pay offered to return. Now that the actress has considerable cache, a source alleges her team refused to entertain any offer that was below eight figures. This resulted in Spyglass and Ortega’s people remaining at odds and a deal was never reached.

Similarly, further light has been shed on the firing of Melissa Barrera. It has been confirmed that the actress was dismissed from Scream 7 a considerable amount of time before the November 22nd announcement.

This confirmation tracks with the reasoning given that Barrera’s dismissal was due to controversial social media remarks she had made on the October 7th Hamas attack on Palestine. This means that Barrera has been absent form Scream 7 for two months, keeping in-tune with Spyglass Media and Paramount’s reputation for keeping things silent.

However, we also have confirmation that the project is continuing despite these events, and that the studios involved don’t deem them quite as raw and catastrophic as first thought…

More on that coming up…
