Just a few weeks ago we got the surprising announcement that the seventh Scream entry would be directed by Christopher Landon, with Radio Silence unable to return. Now we have even more details on the upcoming slasher flick, and it seems like production is shaping up nicely, despite the current chaos in Hollywood.
This past week, an item planted in Production Weekly appeared to confirm several things about Scream 7, some of which have sent fans wild with speculation.
Firstly, we learned that the project will shoot under the working title “Blackbird,” and that production is eyeing a shoot in the first third of 2024. As per the few facts given, the project is alleged to be setting up its base in Montreal, Canada, where Scream VI had previously filmed.
Montreal was chosen as a stand-in for New York, so returning does beg the question… are we once again heading back to the Big Apple? Furthermore, fan speculation is rampant that Scream 7 may just take place in the snow or around Christmas time, as a source claims the script picks up “only weeks after” the events of VI. Will we see Ghostface in the snow? The touted shoot window of January 1st to April 15th certainly suggests it’s a possibility!
As is well documented, SAG-AFTRA are currently striking against the Hollywood Studios Union, so we have no concrete details on casting at this point. More specifically, we do not know if stars Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera will return. Similarly, we know next-to-nothing as to the involvement of legacy cast members Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox. Last we reported, Campbell was in negotiations with Paramount Pictures, but had opted to put them on hold until the Strike action was resolved.
So, a lot of speculation on just a tiny bit of information… However, one thing is clear, Scream 7 is coming, and that’s enough to get any fan excited.
