Ryan Murphy is continuing to fire on all cylinders with his horror and true crime-based television output. Along with American Horror Story season 12 and developing a second season of The Watcher, it has now been announced that Murphy will craft a follow up to his hugely successful series Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
Monsters: Lyle and Erik Menendez will tell the tale of the Menendez Brothers, two wealthy siblings convicted of murdering their parents Jose and Kitty in 1996. Two incredibly public and lengthy trials propelled the brothers into the spotlight and kept the nation spellbound, one ending in a mistrial and the other resulting in life sentences for both.
Little is currently known about Murphy’s plans for the series, no names have been announced as attached and no production dates put forward. What has been confirmed, however, is that Murphy and the series’ producers are in touch with the brothers and will be receiving input from both.
Murphy’s previous Monster offering caused equal measures of acclaim and controversy upon release. Although Niecy Nash-Betts and Evan Peters were both roundly praised and awarded for their performances, many felt the series glorified Jeffrey Dahmer, attempting to push the convicted killer as a sex symbol.
Undoubtedly, Monsters: Lyle and Erik Menendez will spark similar debate as more details emerge. We will keep you posted on any further developments. You can check out the announcement video below.
