With a title as on-the-nose as A Ghost Story, it’s not difficult to imagine a haunting taking place. However, a simple title does not mean a simple chain of events, because David Lowery’s (Peter Pan, Pete’s Dragon) supernatural drama looks like an emotional, beautiful and intricately woven little horror film.
A Ghost Story is one of our most anticipated movies from the year and not just because it is being distributed by A24; the company who brought us The Witch, Green Room and Ex Machina, and the upcoming It Comes at Night. It’s had an excellent reception since its debut at Sundance and we can’t wait for it to be unleashed here in the UK.
Synopsis:
“Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost (Casey Affleck) returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife (Rooney Mara), only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away. Increasingly unmoored, the ghost embarks on a cosmic journey through memory and history, confronting life’s ineffable questions and the enormity of existence.”
Check out the new image from the film below, which shows Rooney Mara and a ghostly Casey Affleck, subtly haunting his grieving on-screen wife. A Ghost Story will be released in the USA on 7th July and the UK on 11th August 2017.
