“This Christmas, spread the holiday fear…”
In further horror news emerging from San Diego Comic-Con, we have our first look at Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night!
In the brief clip, we witness Halloween Ends star Rohan Campbell suit up in a Santa costume, whilst staring lifelessly at the camera.
In a sizzle reel of violence, we then witness Campbell’s character Billy commit several acts of brutal murders. Eagle-eyed slasher fans will notice many callbacks to 1984’s original Silent Night, Deadly Night, most notably the appearance of a set of deer antlers.
However, whilst the film initially looks like a straight-forward remake, an official logline released alongside the teaser suggests otherwise:
“A re-imagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror classic – When Billy witnesses his parents’ grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy wants to know: “Have you been naughty?”
This brief plot synopsis seems to hint that the remake’s Billy Chapman is a serial offender, having committed crimes during more than one holiday season. This contrasts with the 1984 original, wherein, the character’s murder spree is contained to one night.
So, could this be the first of many surprises this remake is hiding? Or are things as simple as they seem from the teaser, and this is a straight-forward remake? We’re undeniably curious to find out.
Alongside Campbell, Silent Night, Deadly Night stars Ruby Modine, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson.
Mike T. Nelson of 2021’s Wrong Turn directs, with Cineverse expected to release Silent Night, Deadly Night unrated on December 12th 2025.
