New Line Cinema have been throwing around the idea of taking another stab at reviving A Nightmare on Elm Street on and off for a long while now. When a fan put forward Kevin Bacon as someone worthy of donning the famous hat and glove last summer, the actor replied with: “I like the way you think…” And now, Bacon has been given the highest seal of approval it’s possible to get.
Talking to Cinema Blend, Robert Englund has all but given his blessing for Bacon to follow in his dream-stalking footsteps.
“Well the gossip I’ve heard, and I don’t know how valid this is, but there has been some talk about using, or perhaps he’s been approached, Kevin Bacon,” said the horror legend. “Yeah. I think that would be great. He’s in one of my favourite little horror movies, Stir of Echoes, and you should check it out if you haven’t seen it. And I just think Kevin’s the right size. I think he respects horror movies. He doesn’t make fun of them. I think it would be real interesting.”
It’s anybody’s guess whether or not New Line is still giving serious thought to an Elm Street reboot, and indeed if Bacon has been approached. There are few actors that I could genuinely see doing the iconic Freddy justice but I gotta say, Bacon’s certainly one of them. He’s got horror pedigree too, with an early role in Friday the 13th followed by Tremors, Flatliners, Hollow Man and, most recently, Greg McLean’s divisive The Darkness.
