After a long battle with illness, Alan Parker, director of the 1987 horror film Angel Heart, has died. He was 76.
Angel Heart, which Parker also wrote, was based on the novel Falling Angel by William Hjortsberg. The film starred Robert De Niro as a man named Louis Cyphre, who hires a private investigator (Mickey Rourke) to track down a singer. But Cyphre isn’t what he seems.
Throughout his career, Parker received two Academy Award nominations for “Best Director,” first for 1979’s Midnight Express and later for 1989’s Mississippi Burning. His other films include Evita, Fame, Bugsy Malone, and Pink Floyd’s The Wall.
