If you thought you’d be getting that long-awaited link from Prometheus to Alien in the first sequel to Prometheus, then you are sadly mistaken. In an interview Ridley Scott has revealed that he’d like 3 sequels to Prometheus because, “The whole point of it is to explain the Alien franchise and to explain the how and why of the creation of the Alien itself. […]It won’t be in the next one. It will be in the one after this one or maybe even a fourth film before we get back into the Alien franchise”. Would this be too much of an explanation, though? Part of the terror of Alien is not knowing where the Alien has come from and even though a little back story would be nice, 3 sequels sounds like a hell of a lot.
I was a fan of Prometheus and I’m keen to see more of the story, but with three more sequels planned, we’re not going to get that direct connection to Alien for YEARS. Especially with Neil Blomkamp’s Alien sequel on the horizon. And that’s disappointing, especially considering we were supposed to get it with the first Prometheus. None of this is confirmed, of course, but it’s still a frustrating prospect.
For Ridley Scott action, be sure to watch The Martian when it’s released on 30th September in the UK and 2nd October in the USA.
