Ridley Scott has seemingly dismissed a rumour that has been circulating around the upcoming release of Alien: Covenant; the idea that Katherine Waterston’s character Daniels is the mother of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley. When speaking at SXSW, the director said:
“No. That was probably way back when. ‘Should she be the daughter of Ripley?’ I said ‘no.’ She’s herself”.”
So, she’s not the “daughter” of Ripley (of course not, that wouldn’t make any sense), but is she the mother?! Hopefully Scott muddled his answer and does mean that she’s not Ripley’s mother, but who knows? We’re not really any wiser. However, when asked the same question Waterston said, “Who started that shit?” It might be “shit”, but is it true?!
I guess we’ll really have to wait until Alien: Covenant is released on 19th May 2019 to find out. Patience is a virtue, dear readers.
