It has been 11 years since we last visited the town of Silent Hill, and rumours of a third film have refused to die since then.
Announced as a possible project in 2020, Return to Silent Hill secured funding in February of this year and now it seems things are powering forward with the addition of cast members and a filming date and location.
War Horse star Jeremy Irvine will star as James, a “broken” man jilted by his only love. After receiving a letter summoning him back to his home town of Silent Hill, he begins a search for his former love whilst navigating a town that has been transformed by evil.
Joining Irvine in the lead is Jigsaw star Hannah Emily Anderson as James’ as-yet-unnamed former flame.
Acting as an adaption of the video game Silent Hill 2, Return to Silent Hill will act as a direct sequel to the 2006 original and ignore 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelations. The film sees the return of original writer-director Christophe Gans, 16 years after he departed the series following disagreements over the direction of the sequel.
Filming is expected to begin next month in West Germany and across other locations in Europe with other cast members expected to be announced soon.
Return to Silent Hill currently does not have a release date, but we will keep an eye out for any further news.
