Although audiences are currently screaming without Neve Campbell, it seems that she is never far from the minds of the franchise’s new creative team.
Speaking last week, Radio Silence and Scream producer William Sherek voiced their thoughts on Campbell returning in future instalments.
“We’d never give up on her,” director Matt Bettinelli-Olpin stated. “We love Neve and we love Sidney. So, we’d love to be able to do another movie with her. We’re not giving up.”
Producer William Sherek echoed these thoughts, saying that Campbell is “always welcome” in the series and floated the idea of a return.
“We had an amazing time with her on 5, [so] we look at that and say she is a spectacular part of this franchise. We want her to make decisions that are right for her, and she will always be welcome and part of this franchise.” Sherek commented. “It’s a door, it’s open and at anytime you can walk through the door.
Whilst details for a Scream 7 are sparse aside from being greenlit, it is promising to hear that the creative team always consider the franchise’s original final girl. Campbell walked away from the sixth instalment in June 2022 after being presented with an unsatisfactory salary offer.
With Scream VI currently cutting up the box-office, and word that Campbell “loved” the film, fans are hopeful Sidney will return. Campbell herself commented on her future with the franchise in August 2022 as Scream VI wrapped shooting.
“I don’t know that I’m done for good, it would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different. It would have to be a different attitude, and I’m not sure that’s going to happen. If they came to me with a number that felt right, that felt respectful, that felt in keeping with my value that I brought to the franchise, I’d be willing to consider”
Scream VI is currently in theatres and we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any updates on a potential sequel.
