A tweet from Universal Pictures has confirmed that production is officially underway on Renfield, a new feature film inspired by an original pitch from The Walking Dead’s creator, Robert Kirkman.
Said to be a “modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone,” the film will centre around Renfield, who has grown sick and tired of his centuries as Dracula’s lackey. The henchman finds a new lease on life and maybe even redemption when he falls for feisty, perennially angry traffic cop Rebecca Quincy.
Nicholas Hoult (Warm Bodies) is playing the titular Renfield, starring opposite Nicolas Cage (Mandy) as Count Dracula and Awkwafina (Ocean’s Eight) as Rebecca. Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty) wrote the script for the film, which is being directed by Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War).
