From director Sion Sono (Suicide Club), Prisoners of the Ghostland is coming to theatres, VOD, and Digital this September—and a prequel comic book is already available!
Patriot Comic Books is behind the 25-page comic, which is available in both colour and black and white versions. Christopher Reda and Mason Mendoza wrote the story, with art by Alonso Molina Gonzales. Aiming to set the stage for the movie, the comic features Nicolas Cage and Nick Cassavetes and sees two notorious outlaws execute an elaborate bank heist in an east-meets-west stylised town. When his accomplice goes full-on psychotic, Cage’s character must decide whether he wants to escape or have innocent blood on his hands.
How does this connect to the film? Well, Prisoners of the Ghostland will pick up the tale with Cage’s bank robber sprung from jail by The Governor (Bill Moseley), a wealthy warlord whose adopted granddaughter (Sofia Boutella) has gone missing. The Governor promises him his freedom in exchange for retrieving the runaway. Strapped into a leather suit that will self-destruct within five days, the bandit sets off on a journey to find the young woman—and his own path to redemption.
