While a week remains until Pacific Rim Uprising smashes its way into cinemas on March 23rd, the story is already being set up in a digital web-comic titled Pacific Rim: Amara, which acts as a prequel to the film.
The comic series – a new chapter of which is being added each Friday – follows the titular young heroine, who scrapes out a new existence for herself after Kaijus kill her parents. Below is the synopsis, which kinda sounds a little like cult Manga (and soon-to-be Robert Rodriguez film) Battle Angel Alita.
“As the Kaiju Wars rage on, Pacific Rim: Amara follows Amara Namani, whose life is shattered when she is orphaned during a devastating monster attack. Fighting to survive as her city is destroyed, she finds shelter with a grumpy mech-inventor named Kai and his closest companion, Hannah. The trio forms an unlikely family in the aftermath of the invasion, looking out for one another and scavenging old mech parts to build their very own Jaeger, a pilotable giant robot with the power to protect Amara from the monsters that took everything from her.”
Pacific Rim: Amara was written by Cavan Scott and Zhang Ran, with art provided by BigN. You can read it through LINE Webtoons.
