A pilot episode has been confirmed for an adaptation of The Passage, a series based on the vampire trilogy from author Justin Cronin. I have read the first novel and found it extremely detailed and exciting. At over 700 pages long and with two more novels following, it is definitely suited to the TV format over film. Spanning over a century in total, it would be near-impossible to cover the storyline without committing to a huge number of films or ignoring key parts of the narrative.
Spanning over a century in time, The Passage follows a young girl called Amy who must save the human race from a vampiric plague that threatens to destroy life as we know it. It’s a blend of conspiracy thriller, action, drama and fantasy, so will make for a complex and unpredictable watch.
There have been no cast announcements yet, but the series will be airing on Fox and will feature Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker as executive producers. Additionally, Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, Let Me In) will be directing the episode which will be written by Liz Heldens (Mercy, Camp).
We’re very excited about this and it’s probably a good time to give book number 2 a read…
