Phantasm star Reggie Bannister is a cult icon to fans.
The actor battled it out against Angus Scrimm’s The Tall Man in five Phantasm movies, never backing down.
Now, the beloved star is drawing on some of that strength as he enters his final fight.
As has been known for many years, Bannister has been battling the effects of Parkinson’s Disease and dementia.
However, in a sad update, we have learned that Bannister’s condition has deteriorated, and he will soon be entering home hospice care.
In a Facebook post, Bannister’s best friend Russell “GreWolf” Mauck called to the actor’s “phans,” encouraging them to write to Reggie in his time of need:
“He’s still cognitive, so that’s good, but his body is failing. Reggie and Gigi [his wife] had planned ahead and made an advanced directive. As a result, Reggie will be going home from the V.A. soon, for home hospice care. There is no prognosis or time frame. It is his wish to be home and around family, in their little mountain cabin. He’s not suffering, and he’s happy to be going home. We do not know the length of time that they will have together, but are happy to have the time left. Please know how much Reggie and Gigi love their Phans, Phriends, and colleagues.”
Alongside this heartbreaking update, an address was posted where fans could reach out to Reggie, send him their well wishes, or just tell him how much he means to them. According to Mauck, Bannister “lived” to interact with his fans, and wants to read their letters whilst in his “place of peace.”
