A new poster has emerged for the new 4k restoration of Don Coscarelli’s horror classic Phantasm, and it’s freakin’ beautiful. The distinctive artwork, which you can see below, was created by Aaron Lea.
The restoration was overseen by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, and premiered at the prestigious SXSW festival in Austin, Texas back in March. It is due to hit US cable and digital platforms on October 7th, with disc releases planned for later this year.
The cable/digital release coincides with the big screen and digital HD release of the long-awaited Phantasm: Ravager, the fifth and final entry in the long-running franchise. Ravager is the first in the series not to be directed by Coscarelli, who has handed the reigns over to David Hartman, but remains onboard as writer and producer. The film brings back all the key players from the 1979 original, including A. Michael Baldwin, Kathy Lester and Bill Thornbury. Reggie Bannister returns as Reggie, who is set for his final confrontation with The Tall Man, played for the last time by Angus Scrimm, who sadly passed away back in January.
No UK release has yet been announced for Phantasm 4k, but a nice blu-ray package is surely in the works.
