“There’s something bad here… in Derry”
After months of small teases, HBO and Max have finally gifted us with the first full teaser for IT: Welcome to Derry.
Looking as though it slots right in with Andy Muschietti’s already established IT universe, the clip takes us to 1962.
27 years before IT: Chapter One, the town of Derry is still a very bizarre place. We meet a young family, convinced that a new life in Derry will be the fresh start they need. However, it soon becomes apparent that all is not well among the residents.
A number of local children appear to be missing, evoking that same dread omnipresent in Chapter One. Following that blueprint, we meet a new group of pre-teen leads, all growing wise to the situation around them. As they each encounter things that terrify them beyond belief, we then get one brief glimpse of the creature behind it all… Pennywise.
Dripping with atmosphere, and sporting some brilliant period detail, it’s obvious HBO have funnelled a great deal of money into IT: Welcome to Derry. With creator Stephen King championing the series as a chance to further adapt his lengthy book, the series has every chance of becoming a hit.
The appetite is certainly there, with the trailer garnering a staggering three million views in its first two days.
IT: Welcome to Derry stars James Remar, Taylour Paige, Madeleine Stowe, Jovan Adepo, Rudy Mancuso, and Bill Skarsgard.
Although an official premiere date hasn’t yet been revealed, the teaser promises we can expect Welcome to Derry this summer.
