Filmmaker Johannes Roberts has been promising a third entry in the 47 Meters series since 2020, when he said it was “definitely” happening. Furthermore, Roberts confirmed he wouldn’t be directing the third entry, but would keep a close eye on the project.
Here we are four years later, and Roberts has proved to be a man of his word!
47 Meters Down: The Wreck is a-go after international distribution was successful shopped at the Cannes Film Market.
Patrick Lussier, best known for directing 2009’s My Bloody Valentine 3D, is currently attached to direct, and will undoubtedly bring some cache to the project.
Johannes Roberts remains attached, serving as co-writer and producing the third entry.
The plot is said to focus on a father hoping to repair his rocky relationship with his daughter through some deep-sea salvaging. However, their reconciliation goes awry when some angry ocean predators lay claim to their uncovered shipwreck.
There is currently no word on casting, but the film is expected to begin filming in fall this year.
Although not enormous commercial successes, previous 47 Meters entries earned over double their budget, becoming a rather unexpected franchise.
We’ll let you know if we receive any further developments.
