It’s looking like summer 2019 will be a good season for horror fans, and it’s come a little closer. Alexandre Aja’s Crawl has crept into an earlier release slot, moving up from August to July 12th.
A self-contained horror thriller, Crawl stars Kaya Scodelario (who is best known for her role in the Maze Runner series) as a woman trapped inside a flooding house during a Category 5 hurricane. Unfortunately, the house is in Florida, so it’s not just the rising water she has to compete with—there are savage predators close at hand. Three guesses whether they’re hungry…
No trailer or poster has been released yet, but Crawl has enough going for it to get us moderately excited. Besides being helmed by New French Extremity auteur Aja (Haute Tension, Piranha 3D), the film also boasts Evil Dead legend Sam Raimi serving as producer alongside Craig Flores.
Paramount Pictures moved Crawl’s release up not long after the chilling trailer for Ari Aster’s Midsommar dropped. Coincidence? Who can say. We’ll have to wait and see whether this summer will truly be hurricane season for Aja’s film.
