Shinichiro Ueda’s micro-budget zombie horror-comedy One Cut of the Dead is getting remade over in France—and filming is currently underway.
Michel Hazanavicius is writing and directing the French-language remake, which is titled Final Cut. The film is set against the backdrop of a B-movie shoot that is descending into disaster. As the director (Romain Duris) tries to work with jaded technicians and uninterested actors to keep things afloat, shooting is disturbed by the arrival of authentic zombies.
Final Cut’s cast also includes Bérénice Bejo, Grégory Gadebois, Finnegan Oldfield, Matilda Lutz, Sébastian Chassagne, Raphaël Quenard, Jean-Pascal Zadi, Lyes Salem, Simone Hazanavicius, and Luana Bajrami. The Japanese original grossed more than $30 million worldwide against its miniscule budget of just $25,000.
