Recently, we brought you the news that Mason Gooding was set to reprise his role as Jay Simmonds for Heart Eyes 2.
This news came soon after it was confirmed that original writer-director Joel Ruben would also return for the sequel.
Well, Heart Eyes 2 continues to gain momentum, as we can confirm that actress Olivia Holt is officially aboard to reprise her role as Ally McCabe.
The chemistry between Gooding and Holt was one of the main points of praise for Ruben’s comedy-horror flick, so fans have rejoiced at the co-stars re-teaming.
With Ruben recently confirming that a script for the sequel was complete, production of Heart Eyes 2 is expected to begin early this summer.
Plot details remain unknown, but we’d say it’s a safe bet that someone else has taken on the mantel of the Heart Eyes Killer, and is targeting the victims that got away.
Although not an enormous hit for Paramount Pictures, Heart Eyes did the unthinkable for a slasher movie, performing better on its second weekend than its first. Attributed to positive word-of-mouth, this second weekend boost, and the film’s low production costs, spurred the studio to greenlight a sequel.
With the original team and two charismatic leads returning, could we see a sequel that performs better than the original?
