Originally set to be a reunion between Watchers director Chloe Okuno and star Maika Monroe, we’re sad to report that Monroe has dropped out of the upcoming movie Brides.
Citing scheduling conflicts with Universal’s Reminders of Him, Monroe was unable to commit to Okuno’s project after shooting was postponed.
Reliable sources are telling us that actress Olivia Cooke will replace Monroe, and like Monroe, Cooke is no stranger to the horror genre.
Best known for her role as Emma Cody in the A&E series Bates Motel, Cooke has also appeared in the horror features Ouija and The Quiet Ones.
According to an official logline, Brides is described as:
“Set in 1960s Italy, Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally. But he gets far more than he anticipated when Sally’s feminist chaos is added to his perfect, violent Eden of vampire brides.”
The film is expected to “flip Bram Stoker’s Dracula narrative on its head, exploring the struggle between societal repression and carnal desire.” It’s also described as “gothic, glamorous, and gory.”
Filming was expected to begin this past spring. However, now the schedule remains uncertain, with no further cast members announced as of this writing.
Similarly, a release date is still pending. However, wildly successful company NEON have secured the distribution rights for Brides.
