Last year it was reported that Lionsgate was fielding pitches to revive the long-standing Leprechaun franchise. Now we have confirmation that a new movie will move forward soon with all the elements in place.
Director Felipe Vargas will make his feature film debut with this next instalment of the series, after garnering attention with his 2020 fantasy-horror Milk Teeth.
A script penned by Mike Van Waes is complete, meaning the as-yet-untitled project is likely to move forward quite quickly.
There is no definitive word on how the film will see release, but franchise fans are eager to see the titular Leprechaun return to the big screen for the first time in 30 years. However, it is likely the project will land on-demand and home media, as per the last 7 entries.
Most importantly, the announcement of a new Leprechaun film was accompanied by the news that the franchise’s most recognisable face, Warwick Davis, will not be returning. This will mark the series’ third outing without Davis, following his bowing out of Leprechaun: Origins and 2019’s Leprechaun Returns.
So, what could possibly be next for a horror icon that’s seemingly done it all, including going to space? We’ll most definitely keep our eye on this project and bring you any further developments.
