The anticipated sequel to 1987’s Predator has finally released an image to get us excited – or scared – of the upcoming addition to the franchise. It’s all been very quiet since we heard that Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps, RoboCop 3) finished the script last November, so it’s great to get a bit more assurance that the film is pushing forward.
From director Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Iron Man 3) The Predator – we can now assume this is the title – will be a follow-up to the 1987 original film, thus excluding the past sequels and Alien crossover films. Considering the reaction to the AvP films, this is no surprise and will allow Black and co. to head in a whole new direction and put their own stamp on Predator. Back in 2014, Black said, “Why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine? [We like] the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button.”
Check out the teaser image (below) which shows a hugely intimidating Predator, armed and ready with his shoulder cannon. Hopefully we’ll be treated to more imagery or even some footage from the film very soon. Here we go again, bro!
