“NEVER LET GO” TRAILER TEASES DYSTOPIAN SURVIVAL THRILLS

Posted on: May 28th, 2024

“One touch without a rope on… that’s all it takes.”

Alexandre Aja’s Never Let Go is coming to viewers a lot sooner than expected. Following a calendar re-shuffle, Never Let Go moved into the spot previously occupied by Saw XI a few weeks ago. Given that’s only 4 months away, now was the perfect time for a trailer!

Previously only given the briefest synopsis of the film, the trailer paints a much clearer picture of the proceedings, and is a welcome insight into what to expect.

Seeming to slot in right alongside A Quiet Place and The Last of Us, Never Let Go takes us to a post-apocalyptic world where very few humans remain.

Among the survivors are Halle Berry and her two young sons. Living in a woodland cabin, the trio only dare venture outside if tethered back to their home with miles of rope. Berry constantly warns her children that “evil” resides beyond the homestead, and venturing out without a rope will surely spell their doom.

Only the briefest glimpse of a hulking creature is offered, towering over one of Berry’s children after his line snaps. What this is, we do not know, keeping a welcome mystery to the film.

Family discourse soon sets in, as Berry’s sons soon begin to question her motives and doubt her claims of danger. Where does the real threat lie? Is it much closer to home?

Director Alexandre Aja continues to experiment with unique perilous situations with Never Let Go, and given it finds the right audience, it could do quite well for Lionsgate.

This will be Berry’s first turn in the horror genre since 2002’s Gothika, following the abandonment of Netflix’s Mothership earlier this year.

Never Let Go will release on September 27th 2024, and you can check out the first trailer below:
