It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for! Neve Campbell has officially signed on to reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott in the fifth Scream movie.
We’re thrilled to hear this news—after all, it’s hard to imagine a Scream film without Sidney. Campbell joins previously announced returning stars David Arquette and Courtney Cox, who play Dewey Riley and Gale Weathers respectively. New cast members include Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), and Jack Quaid (Tragedy Girls).
Ready or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who make up two-thirds of the filmmaking collective Radio Silence, are directing this latest instalment, which was written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Castle Rock). Franchise creator Kevin Williamson is serving as an executive producer alongside Chad Villella, the third member of Radio Silence. Paul Neinstein and William Sherak are producing.
“After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the ‘Scream’ franchise,” Campbell said in a statement. “I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro.”
“We’re pinching ourselves!” Radio Silence said. “It’s hard to express how much the character Sidney Prescott shaped our love of movies and to have the chance to work with Neve is truly a dream come true. It just wouldn’t be a ‘Scream’ movie without Neve and we’re so excited and honoured to join her in Woodsboro.”
Scream 5 will shoot in Wilmington, North Carolina. Spyglass and Paramount Pictures will release the film worldwide on January 14th, 2022.
