We’ve speculated a lot in the last number of weeks over the upcoming seventh entry in the Scream franchise. A lot of news, both confirmed and rumoured, has cropped up that has warranted discussion. However, one thing that has always remained completely in the dark was whether series star Neve Campbell would return as lead Sidney Prescott.
Last we reported, Campbell was “in negotiations” with Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media. This was enough to get fans excited after Campbell’s exit from the previous instalment, siting a poor salary offer. Word spread that the actress had then halted negotiations as the SAG-AFTRA strike took hold of Hollywood, leaving her involvement up in the air.
However, this past week, a reliable source tells us that Campbell is “likely” to appear in Scream 7, in fact, she may have signed on to the project some time ago.
This information certainly tracks with Paramount’s reputation for getting things done, but keeping them under wraps. After all, following Christopher Landon’s appointment as Scream 7 director, it soon came to light that he had been aboard the project for months prior to the official announcement.
The source tells us that Neve entered negotiations for the seventh film soon after seeing a finished cut of Scream VI. Furthermore, it is stated that the actress has been attached to the project for “the better part of 2023.”
This information is bolstered by an appearance Campbell made at the 2023 Denver Fan Expo in July. When asked by an autograph seeker if she was appearing in Scream 7, the actress cryptically replied “I don’t know if I can talk about that…” Her words drove fans wild with speculation, and now we may know why she had no comment.
However, nothing is set in stone until an official announcement is made, so we will just have to sit tight… But it looks like Sidney Prescott will face-off with Ghostface once again, will it be for the last time?
