After debuting season 2 of their newest hit show April 27th, Netflix have confirmed that Sweet Tooth will return for a third season later in the year. However, much to fans dismay, they have also announced that the third season will be the final one.

Sweet Tooth is based on the DC comic book series of the same name and follows a post-apocalyptic world wherein a Pandemic has resulted in the birth of human-animal hybrids. The show follows Gus, a young half human half deer creature as he traverses a world full of danger. The dwindling human race blame the hybrids for their extinction and constantly hunt them down.

Long in development, a Sweet Tooth adaption first began at Hulu, before turning around to Netflix. The show has accrued over 80 million hours of watch time between the first two seasons and made an overnight sensation of lead actor Christian Convery.

Sweet Tooth showrunner, Stake Land’s Jim Mickle, has confirmed that the third season is ready to go, having been shot back-to-back with season 2 in New Zealand. Furthermore, Mickle voiced his support for ending the show so soon saying it is best “to go out on a high,” and that he “has told the story I wanted to tell.”

Season 3 of Sweet Tooth will also feature a slew of new regular cast members and is expected to premiere on Netflix in the fall. Will you be watching?
