Netflix has acquired the rights to the Chinese Sci-Fi The Wandering Earth, settling a deal that seems the SVOD service taking global rights to the film, aside from in China.
The Wandering Earth has smashed the box office back in China, grossing a huge $600m in just two weeks. It has also made $4 million, so far, in its US theatrical run. The film is set in the near future as humanity has to vacate the Earth before the sun destructs. It sounds like an intense concept and the trailer teases just that. Check it out below. The special effects look pretty great and there’s plenty of drama, as you’d expect.
The Wandering Earth comes from director Frant Gwo and stars Chuxiao Qu, Jing Wu and Guangjie Li. Look out for it on Netflix soon.
