Fresh out of the Sundance Film Festival, Neon has acquired the rights to the horror film The Lodge. The film comes from Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz, the directing duo behind 2014’s acclaimed and creepy Goodnight Mommy. Although I didn’t entirely appreciate the film as some horror fans, I could appreciate the thread of unease that ran through it, so I am excited to see what the directors will bring us next.
In quite similar circumstances to Goodnight Mommy, The Lodge follows 2 children who are trapped in a snowstorm with their soon-to-be-step mum. Events turn drastic and frightening when demons are summoned from the mum’s religious childhood.
Neon plans to release The Lodge in select cinemas later this year, so look out for a release date soon.
