Neill Blomkamp (District 9) was set to direct a decades-later sequel to RoboCop for MGM, which he’d teased would be rated “R” and would potentially feature the original suit and Peter Weller. Unfortunately, that’s not happening.

The director took to Twitter to announce that he’s off the RoboCop project because MGM needs to shoot it now and he’s otherwise occupied. But the reason why he’s busy is good news for horror fans.

Blomkamp says he’s currently shooting a new horror movie. While we don’t know any more details than that, after District 9, we can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up.
