Unquestionably, Dog Soldiers is one of the most highly regarded werewolf movies in recent history. Pitting a family of werewolves against a team of soldiers, the movie offered a dark and gritty tale of survival, with some jet-black comedy thrown in.

Now hailed as a modern classic, it has been 22 years since Dog Soldiers thrilled audiences, and ever since then, fans have wanted to know one thing;
Where’s the sequel?

Initially, filmmaker Neil Marshall floated the idea of continuing the story, but things have gone very quiet in the intervening years. Now, Marshall has issued a long-awaited update on the project, and sadly, it’s not a positive one.

When asked about a potential Dog Soldiers sequel, Marshall said the following:
“I’ve a feeling it’s probably dead in the water because things have gone very quiet from the other side. I’m not giving up, though; there’s still a possibility.”

The “other side” Marshall references is likely the studios involved, as rights issues have nixed the idea of a Dog Soldiers sequel for many years now.

Continuing, Marshall elaborated on his hopes, and what the movie may entail:
“We’ve been trying to get it off the ground for the past six years. I’ve got a story hammered out, but I’ve not written the script yet because I want to know if we’re actually making it or not first. It’s a good idea, and I know Kevin McKidd is on board, but everything has gone very quiet and we don’t know why. We’ll see. I can’t live my life waiting to see if it does happen. If it happens, it happens. It’s always going to be a double-edged sword, though.”

“The new concept for the story is fresh and acknowledges that 20 years have passed. The story is set in a confined setting but a bigger one than the first film.”

Oh, it all sounds so good! Why can’t we have it?

Marshall concluded that “if the fans want it, I’d love to do it.”

We do, Neil… If only studios would listen to our plea!
